Red Rock Canyon

When I found myself
Among the red and the rock
Laying on that metal bench
Out of place
Among the red and the rock
I have seen enough cactus,
Enough red, enough rock
To conclude
This is where I will rest
My soul
Before the death of my body
With my soul as light as the wind,
As red as the rock, as winding
As the road, in this city of sin
Where the only sin it seems,
Is not answering to the call
Of your soul, your red and
Your rock.

Flu

Now an overwhelming punch
I was hit by fever
Trembling in surrender

I curled on the couch
Under the blanket, over
The sweaty shirt, ponder

What life could be
The next time I stand again

The Water Lily

Like the sun warming my frozen heart
Opening up doors
Chasing the downers away
You are there when I return to the pond
As I wait for you to open up
The white
The pink
The purple
I recount the memories of last summer
In this pond
In this life
In this moment
The light breeze caressing the water
As if singing you a lullaby
Not that I want you to sleep again
Wake up
Let us dance and play the summer away

The Bellagio Water Show

I stood next to the pond
With lots of other people
Trying to get a glimpse
Of the famous water show

The Italian opera singer
Controls them, with his
Deep and commanding voice
Winning the magic show contest

Among the numerous magic shows in the strip, winning my jaw
Which was mesmerized
Under this chilly Spring night

I have my wife for warmth
This quick trip to the strip
Letting go of the guilt
of eating too much

The Birthday Gift

And there were plenty of it
Come to think about it
Today is different
Thank you for the surprise letter
Inside the box

A letter written with my youth
The uncluttered mind
The carefree spirit
Wandering and daydreaming
For the best of life ahead

In general, nothing changed
The heart remains the same
Just the body becoming
Unfamiliar and unrecognizable
At times

Thank you for the surprise letter
Inside the box
Reminding me that life
Is not a box to isolate
Overtime

Reminding me that the soul
Is always the same
This time of the year especially
When you remind me
Of this special day

City Driving

The truck behind me speeds up,
just when we made the left turn,

another truck cut across three lanes
to get to the inner lane to make a u turn,

the standard routine is to determine how fast
we can go from zero to sixty, whether you are

driving a sports car or a regular sedan, turning
the streets into a race track, without checkered flags,

just the traffic lights, slowing and then speeding
up things with a green light, until the next stop,

sometimes they pass you, then zigzag down the road,
as if the faster they go, the lesser is the pain of life.

Sunday Professional Golf

Cruel
A gush of wind
A peck of little dirt
A sudden twist of fate
He stumbled down the leaderboard

Like a misstep on top of the stair
Coming down so fast and so
painful, a real test of what
your nerves are made of
Better be steel
Better be still
For this is
the real
test

If you want to be called Champion
